Project Highlights

  • SAGA Project

    Assistant research professor Sheida Raley research aide Ben Edwards are co-leading a new study in community-based settings to support transition to adulthood for adolescents with autism. Known as the Self-Advocacy and Goal Attainment (SAGA) Project, it will involve a pilot test of the Self-Determined Learning Model of Instruction-Autism intervention.

    KU researchers and partners are leading a project to continue building supports to meet students’ academic, behavioral and social-emotional well-being needs and making the resources available to everyone in the school community, including parents teaching at home.

  • Supported Decision-Making

    KUCDD researchers and community partners with support from the Kansas Council on Disability and the WITH Foundation have created a resource on Supported Decision-Making, a process where a person seeks support to make life decisions. The guide highlights the experiences of self-advocates & family members.

  • SDMLI Partnership Expands

    The Self-Determined Learning Model of Instruction, or SDLMI became a critical resource for local high school teachers and students transitioning to virtual learning during the pandemic. Free State High School supported its use so much that it partnered with the center to train all 120 teachers for the 2020-2021 school year. To date, more than 1,800 Free State students have used the SDMLI to set goals, create action plans to achieve those goals, and self-evaluate their progress.
